Do you ever wonder if you could save thousands of dollars by replacing your old furnace or air conditioner with a new, more efficient model?
Furnace Operating Costs
If you know the efficiency of your existing furnace, figuring the approximate savings is simple: CALCULATIONS
- Take the new furnace efficiency minus your current furnace efficiency times last year's bill.
- Example: (95% - 80%) x $2100 = (.95 - .80) x $2100 = $315.00
- You could save $315.00 on a $2100 bill.
- If your new high efficiency furnace costs $3,000, take $3000 ÷ $315 = 9.5 years for furnace to pay for itself.
Your savings in a year can vary based on usage, weather, and utility costs. Be sure to subtract off costs of other items, such as water heater, from gas bill when using last year's cost. Often the average water heater cost per month can be taken from a summer utility bill. Following are a couple of tools to assist you.
