Media Filters

Dust and pollens (down to 6 microns in size) irritate your breathing system. (For reference, a human hair is 100 microns across.)

Standard furnace filters only catch the largest particles in your air (10-20 microns). Accordion style media filters can trap particles down to 1 micron.

Media filters require modification of the ductwork system since they are substantially larger than normal filters. They can also impede the air flow in the ductwork somewhat.

Skuttle is our standard media filter of choice. Skuttle air cleaners remove airborne contaminants that enter a home through the return air ductwork of the heating and air conditioning system.

Most media-type filters capture household pollutants by surface loading. (See the Standard Filter diagram below.)

Skuttle Air Cleaners, however, contain extensive filter material folded into a series of 5-inch pleats. (See the Skuttle Filter diagram). Deep pleating permits higher particle collection over a longer period, with less wear and tear on the furnace.
